The photograph shows Jason shooting in Yellowstone Park from a Long Ranger helicopter for McCann Erickson, London.
A very attractive book from Britain’s answer to Yann Arthus-Bertrand… as well as showcasing many of his own photographs, taken from a helicopter, the author goes into the history and use of aerial photography, and the practicalities of shooting from the air.
Amateur Photographer
Part work diary and part technical manual, Aerial offers readers a behind-the-scenes view of Hawkes’s photographs and career, in addition to an impressive selection of his favourite images… An extremely attractive book, and one that anyone with even a remote interest in photography, and an appreciation of the world around them, is sure to enjoy.

If you admire the much publicised work of Yann Arthus Bertrand, get a hold of this book. The photography is by Jason Hawkes who specialises in aerial photography and has 25 books published. It’s incredibly detailed with suburb colour and fantastic repro. The captions explain the briefs and circumstancs to each photo and there’s an interesting history of aerial phorography at the beginning. Well worth a look.

This book is aimed at just about anyone who appreciates good photography, and has some thoroughly awesome images including my personal favourite of the Chrysler Building in New York. You won’t find much text here - and frankly you don’t need it. If ever there was an example of ‘let the pictures do the talking’, then this is it.
